Wikipedia: Grey Owl

Curated by ACT

Credited both as a writer and conservationist, Grey Owl (aka Archibald Belaney) made a career promoting environmental causes and nature conservation. Although he was extremely popular prior to his death, afterwards this was not the case. Following the printing of information that he was not actually a Native American at all, publication of some of his books rapidly ceased. The study of Grey Owl is an excellent way to examine how an important and relevant message can be lost in the face of controversy. Links to articles written by Grey Owl are available here.
