You can explore art, social studies, and history all at the same time with a great lesson about the painting Rodeo-Pickup Man. The class examines several close-up images of the piece and then considers what the painting is telling them about the culture and time period it depicts. The discussion links to a letter-writing project in which pupils write to community helpers or people who keep them safe. Several amazing images are included and each connects to an element of art.
