Show students that every vote counts as they debate the federal government 's role in protecting voting rights in historically racially discriminated areas. In the Supreme Court case Shelby County v. Holder, the high court found that states where voters had been denied rights due to race no longer required federal supervision. A series of clips, including historical footage related to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, as well as expert interviews and Congressional testimony, examines the impact of the ruling. Extension options allow for practice of debate and writing skills.
