Ibn Battuta was a famous Muslim traveler in the 14th century. He began traveling in 1325 at the age of twenty, first as a pilgrimage to Mecca. But he kept on traveling - for about twenty-nine years. He visited what would today be forty-four countries, then under Muslim rule. Late in his life, he told his stories to a scholar, who recorded them for posterity. This website follows his journey, and supplements it with maps, pictures, information about Islam, It was initially created by a teacher, and has since been revised at the University of California in Berkeley. Includes suggestions for student activities and for how the website can be used by teachers.
