They discuss the Trail of Tears, Davy Crockett, the flags of Texas, and Sam Houston. Students write a compare/contrast essay to explore the differences between the folktales and truth. Through discussion and written essays, students identify the way Sam Houston and Mirabeau Lamar dealt with the Indians.
