Teach Engineering: Biomes and Population Dynamics

Curated by ACT

This lesson begins with a PowerPoint slideshow that covers important ecological concepts about biomes, limiting factors, carrying capacity, and population growth. Students will look at the population dynamics involved with the diversity of community life. What limits population size and are populations static or dynamic? What factors into this interaction and how do populations maintain an equilibrium or balance? Based on this information, students will be able to explain how carrying capacity is determined by the limiting factors within the community and feeding relationships. Students will be able to see the connection between ecological relationships of organisms and the fundamentals of engineering design.
