This 97-slide PowerPoint uses Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, Wilson Rawls, Where the Red Fern Grows, and Jeanne DuPrau's The City of Ember, to illustrate the elements of a story. Setting, plot, characterization (both flat and dynamic characters), as well as point of view and theme are defined. After each element is examine, viewers are asked to demonstrate their understanding of the element by applying what they have learned to their story map of Theodore Taylor's The Cay.
