Instructional Ideas

  • Assign the lesson during English language arts center rotations, have the site open on classroom computers or individual learning devices
  • Create a flipped classroom assignment, direct class members to complete the lesson for homework in order to extend the learning process when they return to school
  • Conduct a Think, Pair, Share to give learners the opportunity to share their similes and metaphors

Classroom Considerations

  • The lesson is designed to be read and followed by pupils
  • Poem excerpts need to be printed so learners can underline in exercise one

Pros

  • Words that are hyperlinked take you to an online dictionary
  • The plan provides examples and a thorough explanation of similes and metaphors

Cons

  • The poetry excerpts are displayed in a lighter font that may be difficult to read
