Review with your young readers the course of events in typical fairy tales with princes, princesses, and dragons. Then read either The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch or Princess Smartypants by Babette Cole to compare these two nontraditional plots with the archetype. To follow-up, learners complete a worksheet (linked) in which they put in the correct order six sentences about how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The plan is labeled "Synthesis" but the resource focuses specifically on sequencing.
