How does propaganda influence our vote? Through grand conversation, scholars gain information about what is and how to identify the different ways propaganda is used in a presidential election. Using their new-found knowledge, citizens of the class then create presidential ad campaigns and vote for who they believe would do the best job.

Instructional Ideas

  • Pose discussion questions on a classroom blog; encourage learners to reply to the question and at least one peer
  • Allow pairs to record their presidential ads on a mobile learning device in addition to the crafting options presented
  • If it is currently an election year, look closely at the propaganda used, then vote and view the classroom's results

Classroom Considerations

  • If the option to print slides with a note section is unavailable; direct pupils to take notes on a separate sheet of paper or on the back of each printed slide
  • Have videos of propaganda ads ready to view prior to conducting the lesson

Pros

  • Offers detailed teacher directions and helpful tips for meeting the class' needs
  • Incorporates multiple types of teaching tools into one lesson for enhanced learner engagement
