On May 21, 1921, hundreds of Black-owned businesses and homes in the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma, were burned to the ground, killing an estimated 100-300 Black residents and leaving an estimated 10,000 Black residents homeless. The victims were buried in unmarked mass graves. This media gallery from Tulsa: The Fire and the Forgotten explains why the search for physical evidence is so important, 100 years after the Tulsa Race Massacre. Support materials include activities for middle and high school students and a student handout.
