New York Times: Restoring the Giant Buddhas of Bamiyan

A picture essay and short video documentary about the attempts of the Afghan people to restore and save the famous Buddhist shrine at Bamiyan. In 2001 the Taliban destroyed the large statue of Buddha leading to a public outcry.
