Instructional Ideas

  • Demonstrate the properties of ferrofluid to the class after viewing the presentation
  • Bring examples of colloid and suspension solutions and incorporate them into the activity as an observation assignment

Classroom Considerations

  • Create smaller working groups, as the activity is designed for stations
  • Order the materials kit in plenty of time before planning to execute the lesson

Pros

  • Grading is easy using the rubric in the teacher's guide; the guide also contains other printables
  • Activity uses the real-world example of water hardness to help make nanoscience more relatable for younger learners

Cons

  • None
