Instructional Ideas

  • Have learners watch the presentation in a computer lab or class set of tablets as a warm-up activity
  • Encourage your class to write a short story or narrative essay using some of the phrases from the presentation
  • Divide your class into pairs and have them write a script, in which they ask each other questions and answer with the appropriate modal phrases

Classroom Considerations

  • The concept of modals is a little tricky, especially when paired with the concept of past participles; consider using after your lesson on interrogative sentences or parts of speech

Pros

  • Clarifies a confusing topic for mainstream classes or English learners
  • Encourages your class to examine their word choice
  • Provides practice slides to reinforce new skills

Cons

  • None
