Instructional Ideas

  • Have 4x4 magic squares available for those that love these types of challenges

Classroom Considerations

  • Requires prior knowledge of adding variables
  • Worksheet explains magic squares, but a lesson prior to beginning the activity would be beneficial

Pros

  • Provides many different answers with the analysis written out to help teachers understand how to evaluate
  • Includes a nationally normed frequency distribution for the problems

Cons

  • Misprints on page six in the answer; it should be x + z = 12, not x + y = 12 and it should be x - z = 6, not x - z = 4. The rest of the work is correct
