Media-rich module examines a pastel portrait of Madame de Pompadour, an influential member of the court of Louis XV and patron of the arts. The work, by French artist Maurice-Quentin Delatour, conveys much useful information about the conventions of eighteenth-century portraiture as well as the politics of the court. Accompanying commentaries and animations convey historical and artistic significance, especially regarding the artist's technique and use of pastel. Includes photographic reproductions, a glossary, a scale model, numerous inset details, a timeline, and similar resources.
