Los Angeles County Museum of Art: Islamic Art: Late Medieval Period: History

Curated by ACT

A solid introduction to Islamic art of the late medieval period (approximately A.D. 1250 to A.D. 1450) that relates historical events to the art production of the time. With informative descriptions and wonderful reproductions that exhibit, among other things, a new interest in Chinese-inspired designs and manuscript illumination brought about by the Mongol invasions of the mid-thirteenth century. Includes a brief account of the Alhambra and its unique decorative interiors. Useful extras include a timeline of Islamic dynasties, a glossary, and a gallery of architectural jewels of the Islamic world.
