Lesson III: Crisis, Pearl Harbor, Internment

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

The third in a series of lessons introduced by “A Fence Away From Freedom,” uses the Smithsonian website, “A More Perfect Union: Japanese Americans and the U.S. Constitution” and focuses on the section of the presentation devoted to the removal of over 120,000 Japanese Americans to internment camps. Of value are the links to additional resources, the background information, and the discussion questions; however, you might consider altering the plan. Rather than having groups report on just one image in this section, consider having groups focus on individual sections and having them share their portion with the class.
