Examine author's purpose in a persuasive text using this scaffolded plan. You essentially have a verbatim script here, but it can definitely be used as an outline instead. Review questions that readers should ask themselves when evaluating an author's argument, using a short example. Guide learners in discussing the topic sentence, point of view, and specific reasons. They read another example, noting it is not a persuasive text. Two more examples give kids a chance for guided, independent practice. All text examples are included and there are adaptation ideas too!
