Use something familiar to students in this word problem; juice! They examine a scenario in which two summer campers each bring a certain number of juice cans to camp, finding the total number of cans they have together. Pictures give learners a chance to count for an answer, and an explanation at the bottom offers step-by-step instructions. This would work best as an overhead projection, since the answer is written on the bottom and can be covered while partners try this out.
