How Do Artists Effectively Relate Historic Events?

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Students explore African American migration. In this black culture and history instructional activity, students use a map to identify northern and southern states in which African Americans lived in the 1900s. Students observe and describe objects and events depicted in photographs and paintings of rural and urban homes of African Americans during this time period. Students draw a picture of one aspect of the Great Migration, and students' pictures are attached to create a mural.
