Introducing measurement can be as simple as reading a book and then using measurement tools to understand how big a foot really is. The class reads and discusses the book How Big is a Foot? by Rolf Myller, stopping often to consider the size of various objects. When the story is finished, the instructor shows how large each item featured in the story actually was. Children then use a 12 inch strip of paper as their tool to find objects that measure one, two, or three feet in length.
