History.com: 7 Facts About the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing

Curated by ACT

The attack by a group of Islamic fundamentalists announced the growing threat of terrorism on US soil. Eighteen minutes after noon on February 26, 1993, a bomb exploded in the basement parking garage below the north tower of the World Trade Center. The massive explosion killed six people and wounded more than 1,000, with some 50,000 people forced to evacuate. Tragically, the 1993 bombing foreshadowed the much larger attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, by a different group of Muslim extremists.
