Learning how to do things, and realizing that one has capability to do things is how children begin to build their self-esteem. A simple lesson beginning with a class discussion about student accomplishments. Next, kids create illustrations of themselves doing something they have learned how to do (accomplished). The illustrations are all posted on the bulletin board. This complements the Arthur episode "Buster's Back."
