Students use the GEEBITT excel model to explore how global average temperatures are affected by changes in our atmosphere in part two of this series of seven lessons. Working in groups, they discuss, analyze graphs, and enter data to explore reflectivity and temperature changes, all related to global warming.

Instructional Ideas

  • Place pupils in groups of no larger than three
  • Teachers may want to model each portion of the activity, allow time for pairs to complete them on their computers, and then move on to the next step; this will keep everyone on task, moving through the lab efficiently, and allows time for questions

Classroom Considerations

  • Classes should be able to read and understand graphs as well as be able to calculate slope
  • Teachers need to familiarize themselves with the GEEBITT excel simulation before using in class, and it must be copied onto all computers before the activity begins
