Four Immigrant Groups: Their Lives and Music

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Fourth graders examine the experiences of four immigrant groups. Class members brainstorm a list of misconceptions of those groups and discuss if these perceptions are still present today. Using maps, groups locate the countries of Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Cuba, and research why emigrants left their home country. To end the instructional activity, researchers compare and contrast the music of the four countries.
