Concepts

test preparation, Standardized Tests, Study Skills, reading nonfiction, reading strategies, reading comprehension, textual evidence, textual analysis, literacy, word meanings, informational texts

Instructional Ideas

  • Set some time aside to cover test-taking strategies that your class can use for Common Core tests
  • After learners have taken the assessment, spend some time reviewing the answers and reasoning
  • Reserve the computer lab to take and talk about the online version of the exam

Classroom Considerations

  • The online version does grade the easily graded questions right away, but doesn't show the answers (only scores); learners can share their scores with you
  • A few questions appear in a different format in the online version, and may be represented as a list of passages students can drag and drop rather than a traditional multiple choice list
  • Depending on your printing capabilities, it may prove difficult to print the large-print version of the assessment

Pros

  • Both the online and paper versions come with answer keys
  • The answer key organizes the questions into a clear chart that includes Common Core standards, making it easier to analyze which standards your pupils may be struggling with

Cons

  • None
