Elements of a Feedback Loop

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Even clothing styles are part of a feedback loop. Learners explore four different examples of feedback loops both outside of and within the body: speed limit signs, thermostats, thermoregulation, and blood glucose levels. They identify each loop's receptors and stimuli determine their effectors. The outcome is the continuation of the feedback loop to maintain a specific balance.

Instructional Ideas

  • After the video, have pairs determine other examples of feedback loops to share in class
  • Generate a list of feedback loops and after the video, ask pairs of learners to identify the receptors and effectors

Classroom Considerations

  • Part 17 in a series of 37

Pros

  • Great, simple examples of feedback loops engage high school learners
  • At 5:29, the narrator asks a question about effectors regarding the hypothalamus and getting too hot; this is a great place to pause and give learners a chance to answer
  • Great job in the video of defining and giving examples of receptors and effectors

Cons

  • Referenced a feedback loop in a book at 1:10; not sure which book the narrator is referring to
