Identifying the theme or central idea of a text is a skill many young readers struggle with. It is also the second standard for reading literature in the Common Core. This resource, one from a series of Common Core lessons, can provide some much-needed practice with this skill.  As with all lessons from this series, you are provided with two group or whole-class practice activities and two multiple choice quizzes. Note: While one of the practice activities and the quizzes are ready to use, the second practice activity will require you to make theme cards based on the stories your class has read.
