The idea in the resource is to understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations. To stay within the context of the standard, skip the part of the resource that solves with unit rates. Instead, emphasize the slope intercept form of the equation or y = mx + b.Extend the lesson by having your future accountants working in scientific notation. Complete the exercise by graphing without the initial cost and then graph with the initial cost. Ask your pupils what happens to the graph.
