What was Bryce's mistake? Through analysis of a student work example, learners develop their own ability to compare the fractions one fourth and one half. Central to this activity is the concept that, when comparing fractions, the whole must be the same size for each. Pupils gain experience visually representing fractions and using the greater than, less than, and equal signs to compare them, making this excellent practice for 3rd graders learning about fractions. Use this activity to begin a discussion about comparing fractions, allowing pupils to share their work and understanding with others.
