Instructional Ideas

  • If all class members have computer access, consider flipping the activity and having learners read the source out of class before returning for discussion
  • Use the resource as part of a unit study of women's rights, of immigration policy, or Chinese American history

Classroom Considerations

  • A protocol must be in place for the safe, respectful discussion of sensitive issues
  • Preview the entire resource and carefully consider the composition of your class before deciding to use the resource
  • Requires individual computer access
  • If student access to computers is not available, the Cyber Exhibit may be printed; however, the document is very long and the cost of printing may be prohibitive

Pros

  • Resources include images, primary source documents, and background information about immigration laws
  • Provides 12 character summaries for the letter writing assignment

Cons

  • No rubric is provided for the letter writing assignment
