Instructional Ideas

  • Look up a bird camera online and note observations as you watch
  • Put class members in pairs so that they can share a pair of binoculars
  • Create a journal with a compilation of the bird watching sheets

Classroom Considerations

  • Each class member needs a clipboard for writing on when they go outside
  • Binoculars are needed, as stated by the plan, but does not detract from the activity if they are not available
  • Ensure pupils have access to crayons

Pros

  • Allows learners to take on the role of an ornithologist
  • Provides a link for further research of birds individuals observe

Cons

  • There is a typo on the worksheet; the first instruction under the second task should read shape
