Learners make connections with the book Because of Winn-Dixie through writing.  In this writing lesson plan, students pretend to be the main character and write a letter to her mother, using very descriptive language.  Learners also write down all the lessons the book in trying to teach.  Students can also create a map of the town in which the main character lives.
