Why do books end up on the banned book list? How do these banned books contribute to the literary canon? Start by showing the photo slide show, and discussing notably banned books. Then focus on some of the most popular objections: profanity, sex, violence, and religion. The extension activity suggests readers choose a book of the list, read it, and report on it. Further this idea by asking your class if they thought their book deserved to be banned from schools, and what they learned from reading it.
