Being asked to design and perform a service learning project may seem overwhelming to middle and high school students. The nine lessons in the Service Learning Handbook Module break the process into manageable steps and ask participants to apply the skills they learned in the Overcoming Obstacles course to craft and execute a successful service learning project. Scholars learn how to validate resources, develop and commit to a contract that details who is responsible for each portion of the action plan, learn how to formulate an action plan, give presentations, use a tracking sheet, and craft status memos. Finally, pupils reflect on their participation and self-assess their project before crafting a formal, public assessment of their Service Learning Project.
