The first series of lessons in this unit module examines George Washington's contributions to the Revolutionary War and as the first president of the United States. Scholars also consider Washington as a slaveholder and discuss attitudes at the time about slavery. The second resource features two primary sources about the Battle of Trenton. Young historians consider why the battle is considered a turning point in the war, the hardships soldiers faced, and how Washington lead his troops to victory. The final resource in the unit module presents information about the experiences of women at the time. It compares the lives of loyalist women to that of patriots and American Americans.
