She turned to three influential high school teachers for help: her chemistry teacher Joseph Cherry, who made chemistry memorable; her French teacher Mary Schwager, whose lessons helped her read Curie’s scientific papers in French; and her English teacher Jacob Luria, a published author who inspired her to become a writer. Sobel credits these teachers with giving her the tools she needed to tell Curie’s story.\n
