You are often asked about housing/apartments on the test, such as:

Part 1

Tell me about the house or apartment you are living in now.
Tell me about the house or apartment you grew up in.

Part 2

Describe the home you want in the future.

Idioms to use in these answers:

My heart sank

When I saw the apartment, my heart sank, as it was filthy and had no windows.

Beside myself with emotion

When I had to leave my childhood home to move to the States, I was overcome with grief.

Throwing money down the drain

I want to buy a house, so I’m not throwing money down the drain on rent every month.

Change of heart

I used to only want to live in rented apartments, because it was easier. Then, around the age of 30, I started a family and had a change of heart. Now, I really want a nice house.\n
