High school science classes and undergraduate science majors (as well as anyone else with an interest in science, physicists, the universe we live in, or specifically the Higgs boson) are invited to join a discussion about the making of the movie, the stories behind the movie, the Higgs boson discovery, and other neat particle physics questions.

Particle Fever gives audiences a front row seat to a significant, inspiring scientific breakthrough as it happens. The film follows six brilliant scientists during the launch of the Large Hadron Collider, marking the start-up of the biggest, most expensive experiment in the history of the planet, pushing the edge of human innovation. As they sought to unravel the mysteries of the universe, 10,000 scientists from more than 100 countries joined forces in pursuit of a single goal: to recreate conditions that existed just moments after the Big Bang and find the Higgs boson, potentially explaining the origin of all matter. But our heroes confront an even bigger challenge: have we reached our limit in understanding why we exist?

Directed by Mark Levinson, a physicist turned filmmaker, and masterfully edited by Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now, The English Patient), Particle Fever is a celebration of discovery, revealing the very human stories behind this epic machine. Both Kaplan, a Johns Hopkins physics professor, and Dunford will be at the Google Hangout to answer questions via Twitter (Use #NSFLive to do so!) about one of the most accessible, compelling movies and the science and people it involves. A trailer and clips are available prior to the Hangout. If you can't make the Hangout, catch \"the fever\" at a theater near you! While the movie has already premiered in many markets, its upcoming city releases include: Santa Fe; Columbus, Ohio; Kansas City, Kan.; Atlanta; Houston (March 28); Ann Arbor, Mich. (March 31); Oklahoma City; Boise; Charlotte, N.C.; Charlottesville, Va. (April 3-4); and Albany, N.Y.; Portland and Eugene, Ore.; Austin, Texas; Knoxville; and Lincoln, Neb. (throughout April). Because of the film's success, more city releases are being added every week, so check the Particle Fever Web site for updates.\n
