STORY-LINE :There is always hope. That is the message the 'Hope Choir' - a band comprised half of Germans and half of Syrians.The choir mixes songs from both countries, and has played concerts across the German capital. Tonight the choir is opening \"Refugees in Concert\" at the OC 23. The sold out gig showcases musicians and bands from Syria. For the many Syrians in the audience, the great majority of whom arrived in Germany as refugees over the last two years, the concert is a way to forget about the problems of daily life and the endless stream of horrifying news from their home country. But it is not easy. \"Of course we are not happy about what is happening in Aleppo. That is why we feel happy and sad at the same time on a night like this,\" says Omar Zoghbi, a migrant from Latakia who has been in Germany for seven months. It is the second time the concert has been held, the first performance was in January 2016. At that last event, Abdallah Rahhal from Aleppo met some a group of Syrian musicians, and ended up forming the band Musiqana. Over the last nine months they have played around 50 concerts all over Germany. The sounds are unmistakably Syrian, but with a beat and showmanship that also draws a German following. Rahhal hopes that the band show Germans a bit of Syrian culture.\"This is a perfect way to help the integration and understanding between the Syrian people and the German people,\" he says. According to the latest figures from the Interior Ministry, 890,000 asylum seekers came to Germany in 2015. The largest group was Syrians. The flow has slowed significantly since then: in the first nine months of 2016 around 210,000 have applied for asylum. Rahhal is from Aleppo, a city that is under constant and heavy bombardment. It is impossible to ignore the suffering in his home town, he says, but he hopes that he can help people forget about if for a short time. \"Of course it is very sad and painful to see our country being destroyed every day. And know that people are being killed or injured every day. But unfortunately we can't do much,\" he says.\"What we can do is give people a little hope, give them a little comfort and maybe make them forget the war for a little while. And use the music to remind them of the nice things before the war,\" he says. As the evening goes on the crowd is whipped into a frenzy. A group of women take over the stage to dance along with Rahhal and the band. The music is far away from techno or punk, but the crowd is as lively. \"Despite the war, despite all the people that are dying and all the bloodshed in our country, despite all that we are happy to show off our culture,\" says Abeer Al Moussly, a migrant from Damascus who has been in Germany for one year. \"People that live here need this, some entertainment, meeting people from our own country, listening to our music and feeling free and safe,\" says Ahmad Almohammad, from Hama.The concert, which was organised by Berlin-based concert organiser Achim Seuberling, also features Aeham Ahmad, a pianist from Aleppo who rose to fame in 2014 after posting videos of himself playing piano in the ruins of his home city. Audience member Saskia Miersch says the music is \"really powerful\".And Yasmine Touble says the traditional songs means \"everyone knows them, everyone can join in.
