Istanbul Fashion Week 2011 sign\u003cbr/\u003eFashion Week opened on Thursday in the world's second largest textile producing nation, Turkey.\u003cbr/\u003eBuyers converged on Istanbul, which is centre of a worldwide trade second only to China.\u003cbr/\u003eTextiles are one of the defining industries of Turkey. Istanbul's Textile and Apparel Exporter Association says the industry employs 8 percent of the nation's workforce and is 20 percent of the country's total exports.  \u003cbr/\u003eNow it is poised to profit from China's own economic growth by exporting to potentially the world's biggest single market after almost a decade where it faced competition from the Far East and rising prices of raw materials, such as silk and viscose.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The textile industry is withstanding some strong winds. The main reason for this is that it has the trained manpower,\" said Ismail Gulle, leader of Istanbul Textile and Raw Material Exporters Association and owner of one of the largest textile firms in Turkey. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Since 2010 we have stopped viewing China as a threat and instead have approached it as a market. Our exports to China have increased by 60 percent,\" he added.\u003cbr/\u003eTurkey is combining its traditional facilities with its geographical location, conveniently close to Europe, Asia and the Middle East to deliver quality products faster. \u003cbr/\u003eIn recent years industry leaders have started to create designer brands. Close to thirty Turkish designers and brands are displaying at Istanbul Fashion week, which takes place in the first week of February. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Turkey has adapted to producing and selling products at a rapid pace. And with the new formation of local brands, Turkey is expanding (exports) to the Russia and the Middle East,\" said Hikmet Tanriverdi, president of an organisation of textile exporting firms.\u003cbr/\u003eGoker Ciga, who is a sales coordinator at a fabric shop in Istanbul which does business with European countries as well as Middle Eastern countries, says Turkey has not been affected by the recent global economic crisis because of its wide range of  products and the speed of its delivery. \u003cbr/\u003eHe said Turkey still cannot challenge China on price but quality and
